What it is
Potenza is a radiofrequency microneedling device. The needles enter the skin to a chosen depth, and once they are in, they release radiofrequency energy directly into the dermis. The body responds to the combination by building new collagen and remodelling existing tissue. Settings, including needle depth, energy and pattern, are chosen for the area and the concern being treated.
What it does well
It is well suited to acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture, fine lines and early skin laxity. Because the energy is delivered below the surface, the work happens where it is needed, and the visible surface usually recovers within a day or two.
What it does not do
Potenza is not the right tool for pigmentation problems on their own. Those usually need a laser approach instead. It will also not replace the lifting effect of focused ultrasound or surgery in advanced laxity.
Our view
Potenza is a tool where the operator's judgement is most of the result. The same device, used at the wrong depth or energy, can do nothing useful or it can cause unnecessary inflammation. Dr Ong sets the parameters in person, after looking at the skin and discussing what kind of downtime fits your week.
Practical notes
A session takes about an hour, including topical anaesthetic. Most patients have a day or two of redness afterwards, like a mild sunburn that settles. The result builds over several weeks, and most concerns benefit from a course of two to four sessions spaced about a month apart.
