What it does
Botulinum toxin softens the action of specific muscles. Where a line is created by repeated expression, easing the muscle that folds the skin lets that skin settle and the line soften. The effect is targeted and temporary, and it fades over a few months as normal movement returns.
What it leaves alone
It does not add volume, so it will not fill a line that sits there at rest, and it does not lift skin that has descended. Those are separate problems with separate answers. Asked to do a job it was never meant for, it simply will not work, which is part of why diagnosis comes first.
Why the frozen look happens
The stiff, expressionless result people worry about comes from too much product, or product in the wrong place. The treatment itself does not cause it. A measured dose, placed with an understanding of how your face moves, should soften a line while leaving expression intact. Restraint is most of the skill.
It also explains why the brand on the vial matters far less than the marketing suggests. The result is decided by assessment, dose and placement.
A note on the jaw
Placed in the masseter muscles along the jaw, the same treatment can slim a square jawline over time, and ease the clenching and grinding that some people do at night. Whether it suits you depends on what is causing the width in the first place, which is assessed in person.
